After picking up someone at the airport today, I noticed a personalized license plate on a car in front of me.
PEDO
The dictionary says it’s a prefix meaning soil or child/children. Still, it seems an unfortunate choice.
I suppose it could be someone’s last name too. From a dentally informed commenter: Pedo could be short [...]

Well, not so much cookery as sandwich assembly.
I signed up to
make cucumber tea sandwiches for a tea. They sound like delightful
little snacks, refreshing. I haven’t had them before, though, so I
looked up a few recipes. Some are simple - just butter spread on bread
and thinly sliced English cucumbers. Others go full-on fancy with
watercress, dill, chives, [...]

When I subscribe to magazines they end up stacked in unread piles on
the coffee table. One year I signed up for multiple magazines at once
and the many unread issues filled up the car trunk and one file cabinet
drawer at work too.
But when I come across them in waiting
rooms, it’s like finding unexpected treasure and [...]

I’ve
always been fascinated by the topic of adoption, though I have no
personal experience with it. So when I came across DMC: My adoption
journey one night while flipping channels, I had to watch it. I
enjoyed it too, even though it felt incomplete. We don’t learn who is
the birth father of Daryl "DMC" McDaniel or more about [...]

Went to see Rich Cohen read from and talk about his book Sweet and Low: A Family Story. He came out on the stage wearing a suit with a tie the exact same shade of pink as the little paper packets that contained the sugar substitute invented by his grandfather. Sometimes real stories are better [...]
