Someone suggested that it belonged to the car of
someone who was really into pyrotechnics. Sounds good. But then later,
I realized that it could be a special personalized plate commemorating
the lifetime commitment of Mr. and Mrs. T in holy matrimony.

Last week I saw the license plate:
NBMWXTC
For just a
second, I went to a happy place and thought of that band XTC. Then I
read it as "in BMW ecstasy." Which seemed sort of redundant. On a BMW.
Unless…
Maybe the driver, let’s call him Barney, really loved
BMWs and had changed careers just to be closer to them. Let’s [...]

This
morning I passed by a building that said "Yahoo!" on its side in that
wacky font used in the company’s logo. (What font is that, anyway? I
even found a Yahoo-style logo maker here to make
the image for this post, but I still don’t know the name of that font.)
I
didn’t know that Yahoo! had an office in [...]

During the day, I drove by an empty parked car and thought the seat
covers were cute. Each head rest had a monkey face on it that reminded
me of that funny monkey Julius by Paul Frank.
At night, I
could still see the monkey faces inside the empty car. They looked
ghoulish in the glow of the street [...]

A friend emailed me about a personalized plate that she spotted at JFK airport in NYC.
TRU-DIVA
On a white Cadillac Escalade. (No doubt with shiny, swirling rims.) She wondered if Lil Kim was already out of jail.

One day last month I was driving to work behind an aqua-colored Jaguar with the plate
SICPUED
Sic
something? Sí, I’ve been CPUed? Ok, so I took French in high school,
and only a little bit of Spanish later on in life. Maybe that’s why it
took me a minute to get ¡Sí, Se Puede! (Yes We Can, or Yes, [...]

Okay, so I was never a member of the Kenny Rogers fan club, or even
gave him much thought, to be honest. But he was there in the
background, part of a 1980s American landscape and firmly entrenched
in my personal subconsciousness as a male country music star
counterpart to Dolly Parton, with a weird Santa
Claus-ish sort of sex [...]

I like onions. Especially green onions or scallions. But onion rings
are ok too.* So are red onions. Which really look more purple to me
than they do red. Caramelized onions are a special treat.
Onions
are pretty too. They have so many irridescent, translucent layers. Hard
to appreciate them at times, through the tears, but they’re there.
*Some places [...]

I read somewhere that Griffith Park is the largest municipal park in
the country. I tried to go to Griffith Park last Sunday but it was so
packed that I couldn’t get through a park entrance road. It was blocked
off due to traffic and crowds.
The first time I visited it was
probably in elementary school on a [...]
